mac remove onboot firmware password get root

Steps:

  1. open up the macbook pro/mac tower
  2. Remove some ram
  3. turn mac on
  4. Zap the Pram by holding down Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down until the computer reboots itself three times
  5. Shut down mac
  6. replace ram
  7. turn mac on and hold command + S until you are in single user mode (console as root)
  8. run this command /sbin/mount -uw /
  9. also run this rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
  10. type ‘reboot’ (no quotes) and hit enter
  11. The mac will boot and the welcome video will play
  12. You will be prompted to create an account (name the acct and alias a different name than any other acct on your machine)
  13. Do not transfer and settings when prompted
  14. complete “setup”
  15. You will now be logged in as your new admin
  16. Promote your original Standard acct to admin
  17. Finished

    this doesn’t work on my macbook pro. I can’t zap the PRAM even after removing one of the 2 ram modules x 2GB.
    Any suggestion?

    • are you seeing the blue screen and then the auto reboot? i had an issue like this before, DO NOT hold the keys down before you power it on or just after you hit power.

      hit power, wait a couple seconds, then hold down the keys
